Abstract

This research article explores the theme of existentialism in The Wild Iris, by Louise Gluck, published in 1992. Louise Gluck is an American poet who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2020. She has written thirteen poetry collections. Gluck was recognized for the technical precision of her poetry, as well as its emotional depth and exploration of existential themes, including loneliness, human relationships, and death. Her writing is deeply connected to existential themes such as isolation and the search for meaning, often shaped by memories and familial relationships. While her poetry draws on personal experience, her style extends beyond the individual to address universal human concerns. Existentialism is a branch of philosophy that examines the individual’s challenge to live authentically in a world that often seems absurd or beyond understanding. It focuses on personal freedom, responsibility, and the search for meaning in the face of uncertainty and existential doubt.
